What We Believe

Life Church is an inter-denominational Christian community called out to serve Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We have focused our efforts to proclaim the good news of His Kingdom with words and actions in this region of Northeastern Wisconsin and with targeted ministry across the globe in partnership with Grace International. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we follow the model of Jesus by loving sacrificially and fearlessly.

About the Bible…

The Bible is God’s Word to us. We are people of the Book. We have full confidence in the scriptures, God’s self-revelation in the words of people in history. The scriptures tell the story that ignites and sustains us, the story of God’s relentless Kingdom and redemption. It was written by human authors, the patriarchs, prophets, and apostles, who were under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Bible has been inerrantly preserved by God’s spirit and is the Word of God. It is the supreme source of truth and is the guide for Christian beliefs and living. Because God inspired it, it is the truth without any mixture of error. 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20, 21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

About God – the Trinity…

God is the creator and ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. Genesis 1:1,26,27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:1

About the Father…

Our heavenly Father is co-equal with the Son and the Holy Spirit. He is the primary agent of the heavens and the earth, the seen and the unseen, and pronounced it good. He graciously calls out a people for his own possession to overcome the powers of darkness and bless all the peoples of the earth. He has faithfully kept His promises to Abraham, David, and his covenant people. He spoke through the prophets and through his word, and revealed himself in and through Jesus.

About Jesus Christ…

Jesus Christ is the son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and is the eternal Word become fully human. As a human, Jesus laid aside all of his rights and privileges as God, lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people. He was crucified, died and was buried. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and now sits at the right hand of God the Father. Jesus is the Head of the church and baptizes us with the Holy Spirit. He meets with us in worship and communion as we celebrate the victory of the cross and resurrection and we anticipate his triumphant return. He will return to judge the world and consummate the fullness of his kingdom. Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5,14; 10:30; Hebrews 4:14, 15; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14, 15; Titus 2:13

About the Holy Spirit…

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He was received by the church as Jesus breathed on his disciples and was poured out at Pentecost. He unites us in one body, provides us with power for living, and wisdom, understanding, and discernment of truth, and guidance in doing what is right. As Christians, we seek to keep in step with Him daily. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to be loving and faithful, and fills us for worship. He empowers us with spiritual gifts so that we, the church, can do the works of Christ. “As the Father sent me, so send I you,” Jesus said. He also gives us a spiritual language to pray in the Spirit in order to build us up in our faith and help us in our weakness. He is our comforter, counselor, and giver of life. He guarantees our glorious destiny by His presence in us and in the church. 2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17, 20:21-23; Acts 1:8, 2:4; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16, 12-14; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Romans 12

About Human Beings…

People are made in the image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has the tremendous potential for good, all of us, by reason of the fall of man, are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”. This attitude separates people from God, causes many problems in life, and apart from God’s grace, we have no ability to attain to his high calling. Human beings are comprised of spirit, soul (thoughts, feelings and choices), and body (the house for the spirit and soul). Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1,2; Ephesians 2:8-9

About Salvation and the Forgiveness of sins…

Through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ, salvation is God’s free gift to us. We must accept it. We can never make up for our sins by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. We were alienated, dead, enslaved, proud, deceived, and hopeless. God rescued us in and through Jesus, who died for our sins, who actually became sin, on a Roman cross. We do not fully understand this cosmic transaction, but we know that our sins have been forgiven, our lives have been altered, the curtain has been torn, the walls have been demolished, the shackles have been removed. Jesus died to set us free to live for him. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved. It is God’s will for all believers to walk in continued obedience to His Word. Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8, 9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1

About the Church…

We are a “called out people.” We are called out from captivity to freedom, death to life, complacency to cross-shaped living. We are included into the community of the liberating King, the body of Christ. We are an aftertaste of God’s loving triumph on the cross and the foretaste of his loving triumph at the consummation of his Kingdom. We are a missional community. We serve God, one another, and the world according to the gifts that the Spirit has graciously distributed among us. Jesus, as the Head of the church, gives life and encouragement to all of the community of God’s people. We believe the scriptures lead churches to develop wise friends and form temporary earthly institutions for the purposes of accountability, support, and the carrying out of God’s plans on the earth.

About Healing…

When Jesus came to the earth, his ministry ushered in the reign of God, bringing healing to the brokenhearted and liberty to the “captives.” (Isaiah 61) People often find themselves captive and in need of healing physically, mentally, financially, relationally, or spiritually. Through the finished work of the cross, we have available to us healing for any situation that we may encounter.

About Eternity…

Jesus came to give us full life, authentic and eternal. It is the life of the Kingdom, the life of the age to come, but we are privileged to taste it here and now through the Holy Spirit as we eagerly look forward to the fullness of the Kingdom. People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally, separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. Because we have this life now, our citizenship is in heaven, our ultimate loyalty is to our King, Jesus Christ, though we live as sojourners in a fallen and rebellious world. As a Spirit-empowered people, we seek to be a blessing in this world, to demonstrate and share the love, compassion and salvation that our Heavenly Father sent Jesus Christ to give. John 3:16; John 14:17; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9
